It must be that time of year after all -- just a couple days after I showed Frank(I) last week and he subsequently disappeared, THIS GUY showed up 'hanging around' the end of my carport. Politely enough FrankII built his web in a much better (for him, probably) spot just *beside* the backyard gate, so he's safely out of my way should I need to go out there in the meantime... ;-) :-)
His chosen location did, however, end up with him being rather more difficult to take pics of, as he's further off the ground over a set of steps. I got as close as I could considering (and/or with camera zoom) but that (and overcast weather) prevented getting any better photos than these. The last pics are an attempt to show him along with a particularly colorful oak leaf that'd fallen into his web sometime yesterday -- sadly it turns out its vibrant autumn color (along with FrankII's) also mostly escaped the camera lens. :-( His coloration is mostly browns and oranges like FrankI, but he's just a little smaller overall.
STILL CREEPY ENOUGH, though...?? <bwahahahaaa...><evil lol>
Oh -- and for the sharp-eyed amongst y'all -- the last pics (with the trapped leaves) are his *yesterday's* web. THIS morning the leaves were gone but he was still right there. (1st pics) I don't know if or how he either dislodged the leaves, or tore down/rebuilt the whole web overnight, but I am somehow thinking the latter...?
Your spiders are quite the talented web weavers! Great Halloween nature post, hope you had a good one :)
I walked through one of those webs once and ended up with Frank crawling on me. I rather dislike walking through webs.
THANKS for the <love its> and comments, SpiritBear, Anik, Newfld, and fortapache!! For the record I still *absolutely* agree w/ya fort -- I greatly dislike inadvertently running into even a single strand of spiderweb, if I would somehow walk into something like this -- even if without ending up with the 'Frank' on me -- I would be a total screaming/thrashing MESS... <eeek><lol>
Newfld, I absolutely agree with you too. As much as I generally dislike spiders, I've also gotta admire/respect these guys for the incredible "engineering" they manage to routinely accomplish. Totally fascinating creatures to *watch*, when they're in their proper environment... ;-) :-)
[once more -- and I stress -- those other sorts of spiders which might like to occasionally try to invade "MY HOUSE" will NOT be tolerated for an instant...]
