Sorry for the not so great pictures. This cameo reminds me a lot of another cameo I have of Michelangelo, dated 1866 (pics are in my collections), and I suspect its another portrait of a famous Italian or Renaissance artist. Perhaps a souvenir of the Grand Tour. Its unmarked 14k gold.
It looks like its signed on the back, maybe G. Qell? Any ideas? Thanks in advance
Possibly it is not signed but rather labeled: G(uglielmo) Tell?
Well put CAMEOSLEUTH. William Tell.
Thank you, vetraio50. Sometimes the brain cells fire in a useful way!
Thanks! Thats certainly a possibility, Im just having trouble finding any other cameos depicting him. So if it is William Tell, he is not a common subject lol
OK, I think you may be right... Rossini, an Italian composer, wrote his William Tell orchestra in 1829 which apparently popularized Tell in Italy.
