Remington made a lot of products
      Razors to rifles
      Sewing machines to Farm implements
      Let’s not forget typewriters
      It looks Farm

I keep coming back to this to see if an answer has arrived. Of course CW has made following items almost impossible.

Could be an hairdressers sterilising unit missing a glass top

Have you plugged it in to see what happens? Like does it heat up? Vibrate? Oscillate? Spin?
Could be something to warm a can of shaving cream (without exploding it, I hope), or an oscillating jewelry cleaner, etc.... assessing what happens when plugged in is the key to finding out it's purpose.....So, report back on that. :-D

It probably is to warm a can of shaving cream.

This is driving me nuts! Can't find anything like it online.
Maybe it's too old for canned shaving cream. Can you find a patent date/number on it?
Maybe it's a wax warmer from the days when men waxed their mustaches--maybe for a barber shop where wax was used frequently and needed to be kept ready.
Try checking vintage barber shop equipment.
