This hanging lamp was bought at auction about 15 years ago. Solid brass, 18" in diameter with 8 panels. Lovely ribbon design. Looks to be slag glass with amber glass insert panels. We would love to get any information about this -- history, age, maker? Perhaps it may not have been a hanging lamp originally? If anyone knows anything please post! Thank you.

I notice you have a 100 watt bulb in lamp I would take it out it can cause glass to crack if it gets to hot . You have a beautiful slag glass lamp. Without a panel having a name or initial on it hard to say maker until you find one exactly like it

I am pretty sure that the light was originally a hanging lamp. The cop over the top of the shade where the chain attaches is geometrically matched to the panels in the shade itself. If it were a marriage, it would be very difficult to match it that well. Also the materials and the patina on the metal seem to be the same.

I would date the light to ca 1910-20 or so. It is a very nice hanging light. It is most likely that the chain is newer, as it would have likely been a ceiling fixture with it's own shorter chain and a ceiling cap that covered the mounting and electrical connections would have been difficult to convert. It has obviously been rewired, and the chain was likely swapped out then. Much of the early chain used on fixtures like this would have had welded links, and this appears to have open links that can be removed or adjusted. We have a similar older fixture we have not converted and the links are solid and would need to be cut to remove the chain currently on it.

If the metal is not marked with a maker, it would be difficult to attribute it to a particular maker without some form of catalog, or other known production.

      Hope this helps.

Great light with what appears to be the original glass. One we would be glad to have hanging in our 1912 home for sure!!
