This vase measures 7.75" high x 6.5" long x 4.5" wide. Doug Chapman was an artist who worked for Pilgrim Art Glass. I am still researching him. This vase is made of black glass with a white glass overlay on both sides and the bottom. It has a ground top which has been smoothly finished and polished. It is a fairly heavy piece of glass, weighing in at about 3 lbs.

I paid $1.50 for it at a thrift shop today. I almost dropped it several times when I was washing it because it is highly polished inside and out and handles like a greased pig. It is even fairly slippery when dry. There is a bit of very minor scuffing on the bottom.

A nice chunk of glass, though, and I was really lucky today. It was marked down to 75% off so it must have been at the shop for quite a while, but I never saw it before today. I probably would have paid full price if I had.

A bit more on Douglas "Doug" Chapman. He started work at the lowest level at Pilgrim Glass at the age of 19 and worked his way up to master glass blower and Production Manager. He was with Pilgrim until it closed in 2002. He was key to providing glass objects for Kelsey Murphy to use in creating her well known cameo glass art. Some of the glass objects were very heavy and required a lot of strength to create which he had the strength to do.

I found this really interesting video about the Pilgrim Glass factory on youtube. The sound in the first 20 seconds is bad, but then it is fine for the rest of the video. The founder of Pilgrim Glass also speaks for a bit.

There is a nice one of these on ebay for good price. Search: Pilgrim Glass Chapman to find it.

I would appreciate any biographical information about Mr. Chapman. I did find mentions of him in a book about another Pilgrim glass artist, Kelsey Murphy.
