This vase is one of a rare series of pieces designed by Michael Powolny for the Vienna glass company J&L Lobmeyr around 1918-1919, and executed by Loetz. This represents the revival of Venetian decorative traditions being executed, particularly in Germany, around this time. This piece has a crystal ground, vertically ribbed, with opal and white horizonatal stripes. This shape and decor are both documented in Loetz Bohemian Glass, 1880-1940 (Cantz) on facing pages - the shape is on page 268, and the decor is on page 269.
Vortex !!!
This is a wonderful piece. Congratulations.
Dizzying! Beautiful.
Amazing - I've been looking for one of these for ages....!
Fantastic find I love the way real Powolny pieces are so simple yet technical. Spectacular technique here, I assume the spiral is a latticino rod use vertically on some othe decors of the same style
