For my 400th post it had to be this recent arrival which may not be in my collecting line, but way, way, WAY too cool to pass by! Had been in storage for over a quarter century - an authentic, custom-made 1950s metal ALIEN PAPER TOWEL HOLDER used in a ROSWELL, NM Small Cafe which served Mexican cuisine. The seller who had bought this in the San Antonio area from the original owners daughter, believes it was called "El Rancho" but needs to pull out his notebook records to verify. The symbolism escapes me, looks like our Area 51 alien is doing the pied piper routine and has attracted a crow. A green crow? My best guess is maybe this refers to the sudden influx of tourists attracted to the story of the alien invader which had to help her business. I added an unopened roll of paper towels from 1975 - when this was in use in the cafe - for a proper period display. The kind of New Mexico folk art one could never hope to find but thank my lucky stars I did.
OK HippieArchaeologist -- putting aside for the moment any questions about this way-fun towel holder and/or its own history -- where ON EARTH would you find the ca.1975 *roll of paper towels* to go with it...???!! <shock><WOW><lol>
AnythingObscure... I am laughing. My obsession knows no bounds.
<ding><ding><ding> And the judges say YES, we will accept that answer -- you're moving on to the next round!! <cheers><applause> :-) :-) :-)
