Not sure how many more postings I will have in 2018 but I had to add this beauty which is being shipped to me from a collection in Paris. Hard to find in nice shape like this. A circa 1967-68 Carnaby Street London Papier Maché DODO HEAD from DoDo Design. With the goggles, he looks like some kind of mad WWI pilot. A little over 17" (45 cm) in height x 7" wide. Last photo is an online photo of them being sold in a shop on the iconic Carnaby Street in the 1960s. Have not seen this exact character yet... This is not kitsch, this is COOL...
It's in incredible shape to be made of this material and to be 50 years old.
Reminds me of a guy who had a Pitts Special (aerobatic biplane) in the 60's. He had a curled mustache like this & would fly with jumpsuit, leather helmet & a scarf that must have been 4' long. In AL.
That biplane pilot must have been a fabulous sight to see! They just don't make them like that anymore.
I searched for years to find one. Eventually found one on ebay (USA) and had it shipped to me in London. Not as glamorous as yours though.
I even found the gent who owned the shop in Carnaby Street that sold them. The shop was called Gear.
I don't know why they're so hard to find. Any tips? I want a boyfriend for my girl.
I also have a Pinterest page dedicated to them - which you may have seen. I've added your pics to it.
