No clue. My best guess is a cake stand. The base is cast iron. The top is steel or aluminum. The gray paint was obviously a later addition. ( Anyone know why my photos keep getting posted sideways?)

Very elegant cake stand, I love the scrolled sides.

Posting sideways often happens with phone photos, they are unpredictable and it can be frustrating, which is why I switched to an android tablet - the pix post exactly as they look, the way you took them. I had an android phone, what I ended up doing is taking sideways panoramic shots, you hold the phone on its side while off, press the On button also sideways, when the screen comes up you curve the writing with your finger to face your direction, even if the camera app still faces the other way try taking your picture(s) sideways, then go to your photo gallery to see if they are facing straight - if they are, they will probably post that way. It's a bit of a headache but usually works, good luck

I wonder what's under the gray paint...if it was originally chromed (at least its top?) I could imagine something like it used as a cake stand (or pie, or whatever assorted sweets) on a restaurant/diner counter someplace with a glass dome lid?? [and if it thus got a little 'rusty' over the years as old chromed things can do, that might explain the paint too?]

I looked at the areas where the paint is chipped. Still can’t figure out the original color.
Thanks, everyone for the advice on the photo. I usually do this on my iPhone. I’ll use my android tablet for the next item and see if I get better results. AnythingObscure, I love imagination, lol!
