Thanks for this site! My wife and I watch American Pickers faithfully every week, plus the reruns, plus what we have T.Vo'd, so we've learned a lot since the show started. Mike and Frankie, you're the best!
We were at a small town auction recently for a rural volunteer fire department trying to raise money at the annual auction. My wife and I are brand new to the auction scene, so we weren't exactly knowledgable about everything that went on; all I know is I got some absolutely killer deals on a pickup truck load of stuff!
I bought a few nice old items, primarily 3 pieces that I'd like to get someone's opinion on the estimated value of.
The first is an old scythe, with the paper tag still in tact, readable to the eyes, but not really in the picture above. I bought this and 2 others, the other 2 are in great shape also, but no labels.
The second item, is an old single handed bowsaw, with a turnbuckle adjustment, very sturdy, nice shape.
The last, is an old 2 man crosscut saw. It's 60" long, blade is 3 3/8" wide at the center tooth, all in nice shape. (Note:) The last photo is of the paper label on the scythe in the first photo...)
I certainly do appreciate any input on these items.

Just so you know this is NOT the American pickers site ! they have a completely different venue , I can't come up with the link but it's Antique Archeology (SP).com
Next I can tell you that people do buy these things for decorator use but you would need to find out ACTUAL sold for price from e-bay. I've said it before............buy what you like cause you might have to look at it for a looong time to make a profit.

I'm sorry Pop, I didn't realize this was a link from Antique Archaeology's site...but still, I am glad I came across it.
The ebay prices are all over the map for these items. I see the scythes for $10.00 on upwards of $200.00 which is kind of out of this universe. But as they say, there's a nail for every hole...

TommyZ: It is hard to tell what condition your items are in.It looks like the wood is decent,hard to tell how pitted the blades on the saws are.It's been a while since I have done any
thing with the two man saw and can't remember the name of the blade,am thinking it's called a champion tooth crosscut.Try and do a little research on the saw,the older saws from the late 1890s appeal to the compective cutters but have to be in good condition.
Lee, the condition of the scythes are all as close to perfect as you could get, the handles are smooth and not weather checked, blades are all good and sharp actually.
The bow saw is really good. Sturdy, doesn't wiggle one bit.
The crosscut saw is also excellent. I will look further at it for any markings or branding. The thing that impressed me was the condition of these tools, so I bought them knowing even if I hung onto them for many years, they should be of decent value later in the future I'd think.
