This Scout Field Book is from 1944. I think the difference between this and the usual Boy Scout Handbook is there is more emphasis on the out of doors and a bit less about being a scout ie citizenship and the scouting ranks although there is still a bit in this book. Unlike the last book I posted from 1942 this one has photos instead of illustrations.
There are many sections on flora and fauna but I picked a few at semi-random and ended up with these. Photo #2 features signaling with the semaphore flags for when their is no cell phone signal.
Photo #3 features many of the fun accessories. The axes and collapsible shovel looks like fun.
Wrapping it up is the first aid section. Includes a photo/diagram of the major arteries and where to apply tourniquets. Also handy for defending oneself against rouge scout if needed.
Nice. You're correct, photos are very unusual. First Scout book I've seen with them.
Well, maybe the Merit Badge pamphlets may have had photos, but this is the first big book/handbook I've seen.
Thank you very much Toyrebel. One may also note it does not have a Norman Rockwell cover.
Thank you
