Just recieved this Hubley. #432 MG. It was cataloged as Sport Car from '55-'58 and as MG in '62. They came in either all red, green or yellow in '55-'56. It was offered in '57-'58 in red with a cream seat or yellow with a black seat. Back to all red in '62. The yellow is rare and gets a 10% premium. Green, the rarest, gets a 20% premium. It's about 5 1/2" long.
I got this creampuff from the original owner in Alabama. He had it in his basement for 50-60 years. It's got low mileage with less than 2% paint loss. That and having all the original parts puts it in Hubley Collecting grading optimum condition. It has the windshield, spare and even the delicate stick shift. I didn't know these things had a stick shift, they're always missing! I guess it's supposed to be a MGTF or MGTF 1500 midget that was offered from '53-'55. This was the last of the "T" series with the classic old lines. The MGA series,that every one is probably more familiar with, had a modern design succeeded it.
A friend of mine's father had a MGTC he had restored, a real one not a diecast. I'm pretty sure it was a '48. It's the only right side drive car I've ever ridden in. I always kept reaching for a steering wheel when we came to a turn!
That is a nice one. Sounds like fun to ride in the real thing.
The owner was a great guy, I was friends with his son and I worked at their radio station(WBAM) the family owned. Cyril would have loved CW" he had an unbelievable camera collection. He was talented, he did a great job on the MG.
It's a "kind of" TF. TF's lights were more blended into the fender. If memory serves me well, there were 900 imported into the U.S.. We T-series lovers didn't want it modernized. I think you are old enough to have my seen my red TD running around Mont-gom-rie.
I remember seeing some old MG's, it could be that I saw your ride, BB2. Did you know Cyril Brennan at WBAM. He had the TC I mentioned to Apache. The MGA's and later don't hold a candle to the "T's". These were classic sport cars from the golden era.
Hubley took liberties. They made toys not scale models back then. I'm jyst guessing it's a TF because of when it was produced. They made some nice scale models and promos in the late 50's and early 60's. Unfortunately I don't think they made any of T series autos.
Yea, I knew Brennan at the Big Bam. Wasn't it him who did stain glass ?
He had some stain glass in his collection room/man cave. He might have done it at some time, I don't recall him doing it when I knew him. Cyril was talented enough to do anything.
Lived on Bell Rd. ? Hobby was leaded stain glass.
He lived in different places. When I knew him he was living in Foxwood off of Vaughn.
I lived off Vaughn too back "when". S.of Mt. Meigs a bit. Is "Barney's store" still out there ?
