This 2 3-4"L fancy deco style bird brooch is comprised of small white rhinestones & six red-pink emerald cut stones, over gold wash and regular sterling silver. The only mark on back is Sterling plus some squiggles which could be the faded early marks. Marcel Boucher (1937-1971) made this design in 1944, two birds that faced opposite directions called Lovebirds that were supposed to be parakeets, see pic #4 from book American Costume Jewelry by Brunialti
Somptuous brooch and pics, Jenni!
a book piece! Thanks for sharing :-)
It took me a while to see the bird in this but there he is! It could be an artistically designed seashell or an instrument the way he's so elegantly designed! He look's like he's preening! :)
Very nice, Jenni!
Many thanks buckethead for the kind love, so glad you liked this and very good to see you :)
Thank you raven and Vynil for the very kind love, it's greatly appreciated and glad you enjoyed this
Hi, i also have a bird brooch that is exactly the same shape (and dimensionality) as an early Boucher brooch. It is unmarked and doesn't look to be from the 1940's (as the original was). Does anyone know what could be going on here?
Thank you Malkey for the kind love, you're a great friend and I always appreciate your thoughtfulness
Hi Rachel, if your Boucher bird looks newer than the 40s design it might be by d'Orlan who makes very good copies of some Boucher designs, scan the internet images for d'Orlan animal brooches & compare to Boucher's
MrsT and Sean, very grateful for the kind love and support, thanks so much
Hi Newfld, thanks for your comment. I search on D'Orlan bird brooches and there were a lot that looked very like mine design wise, but nothing exactly the same. I'll post it here as a new submission....
Thank you Lisa for the kind love it's greatly appreciated, glad you liked this bird
Many thanks themuse for the kind love, it's very much appreciated and glad you liked this
Really appreciate the kind love MrsT, thank you very much and so glad you liked this deco bird
Love the Brunialti books. Thankfully, my library had them. beautiful Boucher! Really fabulous condition, too.
Thanks Maureen for the super compliments! Boucher made some fabulous deco and nouveau bird designs, and Brunialti's book has most of the rare examples, I love those books too - unfortunately I own copies of them, SO heavy to pack & carry along when you're moving, but they are like reference jewelry bibles you can't do without!!
Many thanks for the thoughtful love
