I’ve looked everywhere for years trying to find this bowl and thanks to Elizabethan here on collectors weekly it’s been identified.Thank you so much..It’s a custom made size that’s 10” wide by 6” tall made in the Iittaca Merimekko Style and pattern. This has the clearest glass I’ve ever seen on a bowl this thick. You wouldn’t believe how heavy it is.The bowl looks like one solid piece without any seams.I can see a seam across the sawtooth top right under all the dots. This piece must be pressed glass. The base is made from a piece of solid glass that’s been polished smooth in the middle. There may be a signature on the bottom. It’s so feint I can’t get a good picture of it.
Gorgeous bowl !~
Thanks Phil.
It is nice but it looks like someone tryed to imitate a Iitala Marimekko piece.
Thank Phil and thank you so much Elisabethan for identifying this. You were right on the manufacture and that’s it a custom made bowl.I just got back from a specialty art glass store not far from me who has sold Iittala Merimekko pieces before and they confirmed exactly what you said. They had never seen one like this either but had no doubt Iittaca glass made it.
Great I am happy I could help! I saw your nice respons in my poast. You said you had more things and a box marked Ratia? Ristomatti Ratia (born 1941) is a Finnish designer and son of Armi Ratia, Marimekko’s founder. Info I found on their websight
https://www.finnishdesignshop.com/Ristomatti_Ratia-d-67.html. So maybe you have more things made by father or son? :)
Enjoy your fantastic bowl :)
