When I went to this weekend's estate sale, I had to sign a waiver. The house was incredibly packed and the treasure hunt was on! I found this candy dish covered in grime and dirt in the basement. Took it home and washed it gently. It's tagged Dalzall Viking and I would love to know more about it. I am calling it a covered candy dish and cobalt blue in color. I would love to know if my description is accurate. The dish with lid is approximately 10" in height. Both pieces are tagged with a label. If the label is removed, does that decrease the value if the item? (I was worried that it might come off with washing so I was very gentle). Thanks for looking at my mystery. (I have no idea why my photos get rotated, they didn't get down-loaded that way! --another mystery).
nice to have labels or makers' mark on patterns reproduced by multiple makers, as this one by Wright and Fenton. This covered compote was originally called 'Alexis' (from early Montgomery Ward catalog c1896) when introduced by Dalzell, Gilmore & Leighton; it's more widely known by the AKA: Priscilla and also 'Late Moon & Star'. Dalzell-Viking Glass was in business c1984-1998, and known for their colored glass.
Hi TallCakes -- thank you for the input. It sounds like it's been manufactured as a reproduction of the original if I am interpreting your comments correctly. I appreciate the information. Thanks again!
