Happy to be back on CW after a bit of a break.
I have a soft spot for the glass art of Youko Sano and her partner Takeshi Sano for a few reasons. Both initially studied glass art in Japan then moved to Australia to study at the Canberra School of Art (almost Aussies!). They have a studio in Toyama Japan, a beautiful city I recently visited, and their works feature prominently at the fantastic Glass Museum in Toyama. They both really work the surface of glass after blowing it, which I find creative and interesting.

This cup is small at 4.5 cm high but packs a lot into a small vessel. It has been blown in a variety of blues and green on clear, has been ground back in patterns that give a great variety of colour and texture. The whole has been sand blasted.
A beautiful, tactile piece of Japanese glass.

Welcome back racer4four aka Karen. I had noticed you were MIA. Also noting that is a worthy sake cup.

Good to see you back, Karen, and with such an arresting piece of glass. The use of texture and colour being very different from what we see in the west. Only last week I was wondering if you were visiting Japan......so I'm now hoping for more!

Pretty and interesting piece as usual. One part of the item seems to be battuto but I can't recognise if the other is cut.

As interesting as it is beautiful.Glad to see your back as I like all the interesting information you provide on Japanese glass and pottery. It looks like one half of this piece has been heated to a higher temperature than the other that’s really cool. Are you sure you didn’t take a trip to Japan and ran it to Godzilla who blasted one half of this with his breath.

Thanks Jenni, glad to be back, and yes, had a great time in Japan. Didn't buy much there but was immersed in another culture which is always a good thing.

It is very interesting Ivonne. The whole vessel has been cut, one area battuto as you see, the other in a different way. It's very textural.

Thanks Peggy, I had a great break in Japan. My trip dug more knowledge holes than it filled!
This is a lovely piece and shows how the contemporary Japanese feel very free with glass.

Just lovely, and so cooling to look at with those icy blues and greens! I can imagine sipping chilled sake in style on a hot summer's day. Beautiful, asymmetrical elegance.
