Hello Everyone!!!
Been a few months since I've been on CW. I hope everyone is doing well..
I was gifted with this early 1900's cast iron Peter Rabbit doorstop this week. It's a depiction of the early 1900's Harrison Cady Peter Rabbit. Quite a few folks still refer to this as "Grandpa Rabbit", but it's not. These are EXTREMELY rare to come by, so I'm VERY excited about adding this to my collection. I have another one of these, but it's white porcelain enamel coated. I also have a Peter Rabbit composite bank (Pic #4) in my collection (also extremely rare) that is painted identically to this one. It measures 8 1/2" tall and 4 1/2" wide. It weighs about 5 or 6 lbs.
There are no markings on this and no one has been able to determine who the maker of this doorstop is. Some say Hubley, but Hubley did not make this.
Thank you all so VERY much for stopping in !!!!!

Hey Mr J!!! How the heck are you? ;) Merry Christmas to you as well and what a great gift! I imagine any id markings have just worn away with this or they just didn't mark it then. I would imagine it may have been made by the same co. as your other one with the same paint, don't you think? Never-the-less, it's awesome!
Well, thank you Sue!! So good to hear from you! A VERY Merry Christmas to you as well. This is one of the holy grails of my doorstop collection. So rare and extremely hard to find. Of all the doorstop collectors I've ever asked, none of these were ever marked. So, the maker remains unknown to this day. Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2019!!
Hello Scott, hope you are well, look forward to seeing your rabbits again. Hope you and the family have a wonderful and safe Christmas and all the best for the New Year too:))
