To all the patent searchers out there. Here is a challenge for you. This Salesman Sample Farm Gate has caused me some frustration in the patent search category. I would love to have the patent to go with it. Your help would be a blessing. Two similar gates are in my collection and appear in separate posts on this site. The unique feature of this gate is that it is reversible. The gate can be opened on one side of the posts and closed on the other side. It also tilts and lifts. Very versatile.

PATENT FOUND!!! April 24, 2019. Miles H. Larimore of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Patent No. 698,717, April 29, 1902. I see the model is missing both Fig 3, #25 latch locks. May be beyond my skills to recreate them.

Merry Christmas ! What a super find . Such a unique collection you have and I always wondered if in life you do make fences and gates and that is how you came to collect them ?

Merry Christmas Manikin! Thanks for the compliment. No I don't make fences and gates. I grew up on a farm and have always loved all things country. I developed a love for miniature items from an early age, and a desire to figure out how things work. My collection is an outlet that fulfills that. Besides that I am just another crazy collector. You can never have too much fun.

Great story gatekeeper , I also came from farming and it made me unable to eat chicken but gave me a good work ethic :-) I always enjoy your salesman samples they have to be very rare to find .

      Thanks Manikin,
Chicken was our prime beef. I loved the baby animals, but I had no problem eating them when they grew up. Did have a cow named Pet. Stopped drinking milk after we sold her. It was a good thing since I later learned that my asthma was caused by an allergy to raw milk. My asthma disappeared on its own. More and more collectors are vying for the salesman samples now so they are becoming more difficult to acquire.

I love salesman samples too . Actually the miniature manikins I collect are wearing salesman sample size clothes . These labeled clothes in miniature size are hard to come by . I do find many people advertising items as salesman samples and they are actually child toys so one has to be careful and not take a sellers word .
Always love your posts . We had cows a whole barn full to milk and every kind of animal in between . Hogs I did not like they are not nice :-)

I hope I can change your thinking about hogs or preferably - pigs. They are one of the cleanest animals. They will not use the bathroom where they eat or sleep if they have enough space. They will go to the farthest corner. They don't have sweat glands so they wallow in mud to stay cool. They can be aggressive at the feed trough. I raised a lot of pigs and I found them to be very smart and gentle if treated with respect. They love to have their bellies scratched. You have a very unusual hobby. Finding newbies for your collection must be much more difficult than mine.
