Picked up this very descent & relatively clean example of a John B. Duguid Steamer Trunk Format, Wall Trunk. It measures 40 L x 21 D x 13 H. The interior is complete with tray as are the ribbons on the inside lid. It has the John B. Duguid Company name plate on top and corresponding labels on the inside. Both original handles are present. Someone altered the lock and it will need to be replaced. The bottom I thought was patched from the photo you see, but once in hand it is just a mild rust mark from sitting on what looks to have been a brick or something. The white edging is is vulcanized material. Also has the company initials marked on the snap button on the tray lid tie down leather portion. Back hinges patent dated 1891 but judging by the latches probably 1900 +.. I am not sure when the stamp steel latches verses the Die-cast latches came into play, so if anyone can provide an answer to this question that would be very much appreciated.

Hi Tom,I Didn't see this one. Just thought I would share some things I've found. I believe one of these is the patent for this trunk.
      Godfrey S. Eggemann wall trunk Dec. 22 1891 sheets 1 and 2 https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/pages/US465693-0.png

Kind of neat how they are patented on the same day.
John B. Duguid had a 1/3 of a share of both men's patents. (Still trying to find out if they were brothers or father son? not sure.) Below is the link of documentation of the patent assignment.

      https://books.google.com/books?id=RCHRAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA108&lpg=PA108&dq=F.J.+patent+Eggeman&source=bl&ots=p_LGGf7Gxv&sig=ACfU3U3PMJyQtaICZBz3Eca8EQYADpqAFw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwi6xMqmz9znAhXdlXIEHfX2DV0Q6AEwCnoECAMQAQ#v=onepage&q=F.J.%20patent%20Eggeman&f=false

This wall trunk appears to be made before John B. Duguid officially merged with G.S. Eggeman. Curious how the merger of both companies happened? Wondering how Eggeman ended up producing many of Duguid's patented (1884) trunk below.

Maybe they traded patent values, I.E. "I can build your wall trunk, and you can build my round top X". Cause were business buddies. Duguid may have gotten second billing on the label after they merged , but he maintained patent rights from everything I can tell.
On another note: G.S. Eggeman did have an earlier wall trunk patent in 1885

And another one much later in 1894.

Anyway, much luck searching for new ones, wonder if this guy sold it?
