Could use help with maker and dating. I thought it was 1863 “h” but does not seem to correspond to Benjamin Smith II. Clearly, I am going down the wrong path.

The lion passant means sterling. The crowned leopards head means London.
The lower case ‘b’ is for 1897 or 1817.

The SS SS Mark is a maker’s mark.
Ok it is a “b”. I see that now (actually, the photo was much clearer than my eyesight). That makes more sense. 1817, I believe that would correspond to the “BS” for Benjamin Smith II. Unless I am misinterpreting the makers mark.

The 1817 is totally correct. Love the marks but what does the piece look like ???
