I bought this wonderful Nahual statue from a friend's gallery in Atontonilco, Guanajuato, Mexico a few wks ago. Nahuales are a really interesting part of the folklore in Central Mexico - particularly around the Distrito Federal. The Galeria Atontonilco is owned by Mayer Schacter and Susan Page, formerly of Oakland, California and had the best collection of vintage pottery and Mexican folk art i have ever seen! i was blown away. i'll show photos from it in another post. This piece is signed, but i forgot to ask the name of the artist.
Festive and dragon like, very nice!
