One of the favourite cutting designs of the Gowens, Kent & Co. of Toronto, Canada circa 1900 to 1918 was a large Maple Leaf. This company was one of a few in Canada that used Brilliant Glass blanks from Europe and the United States to cut their designs on. Blanks came from Baccarat, Val St. Lambert, Libbey, Dorflinger and Mt. Washington Glass co. to name a few. There were no quality glass houses in Canada that could produce the required blanks at the time. Gowens , Kent & Co. used a watermark consisting of a Maple Leaf with the word ELITE inside the maple leaf. This Brilliantly Cut water pitcher has a large central Maple Leaf surrounded with flowering cut stems on two sides. There is also a triangle design of fine diamond points in the under-base. One of the nicest examples that I have seen and Canadian........for sure!
