Been a bit since I posted a mini-plane so getting back to it wear I left off with the pre WWII planes. This is the Polikarpov I-16. It was a mid 1930s plane that was the first low wing monoplane with retractable landing gear. With this model retractable snow skis. It was a good start but it starts going downhill soon. It had technical problems such as the guns jamming, oil covering the canopy and visibility was poor. It was the main fighter plane at the start of WWII which was best its sell by date. It was highly maneuverable but the German planes were so much faster they could just fly away for another pass. This plane flew under 300 MPH which was slower than a B17 Flying Fortress. Generally a WWII fighter should be faster than a 4 engine bomber.
Back to the model it is nicely detailed. You can see the 2 machine guns, one per wing and the two that shot through the prop. This is one of the rarer Bachmann Mini-Planes, I can't even find an example online of it. I think I have the box but it is currently MIA.
Cool colors. I love the skis.
Thank you very much Thomas. Do we have clearance Clarence?
