I bought this necklace because of the unusual clasp. I have not seen too many plastic necklaces like this. I believe the necklace has been re-strung so there is the possibility that the clasp is not original to the necklace.
The other unusual thing about this necklace is the coating of the beads. The beads have a celluloid like coating that can be peeled off. Some of the large beads in the front of the necklace were flaking and I pulled the pieces off because it wasn't looking nice. Underneath, I found perfect, solid plastic beads. I have seen something like this before but I don't remember where.

Ms.Crystalship, what drew me to the necklace was the colour s well. I kind of liked that the beads are not the same but rather have different shades of red. Thanks for your comment. And yes, I was lucky that Mary had a look at my post:)
Sorry for the late response, Mary. Thanks again for your kind comment. I am not working anymore and have some time on my hands. I check the local thrift and charity shops frequently but finding a treasure becomes harder all the time. I guess I have to give it a break because the store clerks know me by now and I am recognizing the fellow treasure hunters. If I see them in the store, I know that I can go home because there will be nothing left to look for - LOL
I really love the richness of the color. Great vintage piece
