Hi, i just purchased this but don't know about era or what it's made from (other than seed pearls). It could be Georgian (pinchbeck?). I acid tested it for 9kt gold but the area went green. The top is a 'lattice', with alternate pearls and panels that could be glass. I don't think these are jargoons or diamonds. It looks as though some kind of enamel was applied to the filigree from the back. Even tiny areas have the clear enamel (?) infill. Also the pin and catch looks somewhat unusual. Can anyone assist, I would be really grateful.

It's a beautiful brooch! I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but the pin on the back looks like it was made to accommodate a very thick fabric or layers of fabric.
Perhaps it was for holding a warm scarf in place or for being worn on a ladies' hat.

I think you might be right, the end of the pin isn't sharp, it's sort of squared off. Maybe for lace?

I can see this as a hair ornament for a special occasion, it is quite elevated and would fit a plaited hair style or a twisted bun. very pretty. Thanks for posting.
