I don't even like blue and white stuff! I went thrifting with my daughter today and we found this ginger jar. Too bad it lost its lid somewhere on its journey. We bought it anyway, expecting my husband to greatly dislike it. To our surprise, he actually approved of our purchase - not that this makes a difference - LOL.

The jar is in great condition. It has no cracks or chips that I can see. It is a bit over 9 inches high and has a diameter of about 9 inches.

The jar is unmarked but in my quick search I came across the term "double happiness". I could be wrong but I found similar examples dating to around the late 1800's - early 1900's.

Usually, I clean my finds very thoroughly but I think I will only gently wipe this jar. I think it has more character the way it is.

    Thanks for looking:)

Your dating to the 19th century is correct. They've been manufactured in enormous numbers. The peaflower decoration shows that they were intended for the Chinese communities in Indonesia. You could have a wooden lid made as a decorative finish.
