This image shows Chaplain Theodore Holmes of the 1st CT Cavalry. It is ink signed on the back of the carte de visite (cdv).
He enlisted as a soldier and was eventually made the unit Chaplain. Apparently he was a front line Chaplain as he was wounded in battle several months AFTER being made the unit chaplain.
He had several interactions with the Division Commander, General Custer, one of which was documented by Libby Custer in her book.
A very interesting soldier, who served in a unit that was in many key battles and locations throughout the War.
