Only a few members of our family were privileged to get a piece of my great-grandparents' silverware and I am one blessed great-grandchild. The silverware was made by J.E. (James Edward) Merriman and I'm pretty sure it was when the company was located in Memphis, Tenn., too. (1841-1865) I've written several short stories about my great-aunt Weezie (Martha Louise Leech). In one story, she remembered this one piece of silverware that had been hidden away in an old box under the old house. We drove back there years after it had been sold (she was 85 and I was 8) and later abandoned, because it was too much for the new owners to keep up. She found the old box in a secret place with this piece still in it. The story and this piece always makes me miss the old days when times were simple, people were kinder and "things" only represented people who were dearly cherished and never forgotten.
