Japanese ritual vessel or insence burner. Have no clue if its authentic. Found at an antique dealer in nova Scotia. Love the look of it and beautiful the design Stamped Japan engraved into thbroze. There is also some type ofblack marking. Cant sell it until I can find out more. They go for a lot of money if its authentic. For now this is all I know
Canada has a tariff act similar to the U.S. tariff act and they also have a rule that items imported and sold in Canada be marked in French. I have no idea when those laws were put in effect. One way the item could have gotten there is if a tourist bought it over seas and brought it home. I read the rules some time ago in a cross border trade blog that covered such rules and regulations. It might pay to have it checked at a local college if there is one close.
Thank you so much for your reply. I am grateful. I think I will bring it to a museum and try to find out more about it. It is not oxidized but still could be old. I hope you have a great day
Less than 100 years old, mainly due to the marking, but also the crude casting of the archaic motifs which came from China. These types of ritual bronzes originated from China and you can easily find prototypes online. The covering was made separately by a Chinese artisan.
