My first flea market find in my new location!
This Victorian art glass jar is made from opaque ivory glass which contains uranium & glows bright green under UV light.
It features applied decoration of blue oak leaves & an amber acorn, & rests on three blue, leaf shaped feet.
It has brass fittings - the lid has been lost, but it matters little...as the decoration is bold & unusual in colour.
I have two other jars (one with the lid & the other, also lidless like this one) in ivory with applied pink & clear acanthus leaves.
I believe most likely English.
Love it!!
You don't mention size-- is it a mustard jar or biscuit barrel?

Many thanks, scottvez!
It's only small at 12.5 cm high so more likely for condiments than biscuits.
what a darling of a piece very nice indeed just super my ironlace

Hi IronLace - this is a really lovely - the color combinations are great! I strongly believe your vase is actually Welz; I have been studying a whole line of vases with applied acorns, flowers and fruit and this acorn is exactly like the ones I have seen on a known Welz color combination - a dark green and yellow. Here is an example of a green & yellow Welz basket, and of a green & yellow vase with an applied acorn: https://www.flickr.com/photos/9646837@N06/46222867415/in/dateposted-public/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/9646837@N06/46222868115/in/dateposted-public/
Hi IronLace, what a great flea market find! I've not seen an acorn on glass like this before and the colour combinations unusual too. Fabulous!
Many thanks as always, MALKEY!
That is really interesting, Michelle...I have a number of pieces with applied acorns in a variety of colours...I should take a photo of them all together sometime to do a comparison between the acorns as they can vary quite a bit. The acorn on this piece is crisply formed & quite distinctive. Love the colour schemes on those yellow & dark green pieces, it's most unusual...
Thanks so much, Vintagefran, I have a few other acorn decorated pieces...& I love all manner of applied decoration - it's always a thrill to find one especially in an unusual colour. And having moved away from a great flea market that I'd scored from reliably for over 20 years, I'm pleased to have found one near my new home that's got potential.
Gorgeous!!
