Seeking help on finding what this is made of - or where it could be from. When I purchased, I thought it was ebony, as it feels like wood, is strong and solid. Then I realized the legs and trunk seem hollow (though the body seems solid). Mark has one similar posted and thought it could be basalt. Other things I find, but no examples with this much carving, are black brass, lacquered brass, and black bronze. The only hint on mine are two scratches on the leg as shown in one photo, but still cannot tell. The tusks are missing, but looking in the holes gives no clues. Any tips on how to test without damaging? This elephant is 5 inches tall and weighs 1 pound 5 ounces. Thanks!
I have the same elephant slightly different carving and someone pulled the tasks out by force this mystery now is more interesting
