I just fell in love with this piece of art at a local auction & purchased it since I was able to do so at a good price. I didn't realize it at the time but it is actually signed, rather large and uniquely, but I cannot make it out. To me it looks like "J. Heihabis 75"??? I think it's rather well made, in a heavy frame so I'm thinking there is a chance the artist can be identified but I can't find anything in using the spelling I have come up with. Any help would be greatly appreciated! It's a large piece where the art, not the frame, is approximately 16 inches by 32 inches.
I just solved my own mystery! After looking at it some more I tried a few more combinations of possible letters & with some luck found a similar painting image, then I was able to find the name, and same signature, J. Meimaris, aka Josiane Meimaris!
I just found this link and was glad to find out you identified the artist. Otherwise, I would have told you that is a painting by my late mother, Josiane Meimaris. I don't recognize the painting, but given the year, 1975, she painted it when we lived in West Berlin. I would say it is a Madonna theme. Yes, many of her paintings have large frames. That was a style of hers. She would often find them in antique shops in Germany. She was a long time resident of Naples, Florida, as well. She passed away in July 2017. Where did you pick up the painting?
I am so sorry I never answered your question, as I thought I did. I found it at a local estate auction in Fremont, Ohio. I absolutely love it :)
Thank you for responding. It's interesting to see where her artwork ends up. I'm glad it found a home where it's adored. I'm sure it looks great there. There was a unique style to her artwork.
