Esmeralda is a decor that is very similar to Oceanik, a version of Loetz "wellenoptisch" (wave optic) glass with iridescent green oil spots over clear glass. Esmeralda, however, has green oil spots over glass that is "grün verlaufend" - (green spreading). This glass is a dark green color in the top half gradually spreading to clear glass at the bottom. This decor was introduced on these pages five years ago, and it has taken me that long to actually find one to call my own. Esmeralda is the Spanish word for "emerald". For comparison, the third photo shows this piece next to an actual group of Brazilian mined raw emerald crystals in a stone matrix. The last photo is of the corresponding paper pattern from the factory archives as published in the Loetz Series II book by Jitka Lnenicková. This shape was made for Robert Meden & Co., Berlin.
Nice snag, I knew that was going to be something good when I saw it, good on you.
Fantastic green spotting! Also love the mount. Is is pewter?
I have to go back and look, but I think it's bronze.
Nice....
