An antique clock is like any other machine in that it needs routine maintenance. You may be able to get it running again without "paying to have fixed" but it really should at least be looked over so you know what needs to be done, if anything.

My first suggestion would be to make sure it is in beat. Do you know what I mean by that?

Okay, well one of the pivot holes on the right side of the movement right below the nut on the upper right hand side looks pretty punched up. That's not good but by itself I doubt it would stop the clock (unless it was really done poorly). I assume that you've tried to oil the movement, yes? The crutch (or wire) loop needs to be centered over the pendulum rod. This is especially true on clocks such as this one. If the pendulum rod rests against the front or back ends of the loop, the resulting friction can bleed off enough power to cause the movement to stall. If none of those things help, if you're mechanically inclined and still want to trouble-shoot the movement yourself, go to the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors Message Board and ask for help. Good luck with it.
