I found this desk several weeks ago and can't find any information about it. Looks like it is made from pine and cedar with dark stained walnut and possibly chestnut veneers. Hand sawn dovetail joints on all drawers. All decorative trim is molded brass with a copper trim accenting the outer edge of the top. The only identifying marks I found are two # "5" at the inside top of every leg. I need help identifying this gorgeous piece. Any information will help. Thanks!
Fantastic ! Send it to me, prepaid, & I will do a free appraisal.
Love all the details on it!
I see screws along all the rectangular trim pieces around the perimeter of the table and around the drawers. Are those pieces metal?
Louis Seize style, but too 'heavy' to be from that time, when lightness was favoured. Probably from the late 19th century or beginning of the 20th century.
Watchsearcher, yes all of the trim is casted brass or similar metal.
Probably from around the 1960's to 1980's when the auctions featured many reproductions such as these. You look at the brass mounts which are heavy looking. Some detail is quite nice. I used to also buy extravagant furniture, but by then I knew the original from the much new that was coming out.
