Mexico had psychedelic movement 10 yrs before the USA, so they were prepared when we had ours in the 60s. Their's was heavily influenced by the surrealists - Frida Kahlo, Leona Carrington, Sylvia Fein [who lives here in the bay and turns 100 this year], Agustín Lazo Adalid, Bridget Bate Tichenor, and even Andre Breton ended up in Mexico for long periods of time. Psychedelia and Surrealism kind of merged as it gained in popularity amongst the emerging middle class in Mexico and even had a profound affect on many poor people - particularly artisans. back to my poncho - from the 60s - my friend George Feldman traveled the world back then and picked it up in Mexico around 1965. He grew up as part of the Jewish community in Beijing.
