Anyone have an idea what this cast iron tool by WilliamMarples & Sons is? Is it for one function, or multiple?
It's one solid piece of iron. The tip has been shaped a though it could be used as a nail punch. The top, wide end, is beveled slightly.
Any ideas welcomed.
Some type of wire gauge possibly?
Why do you think this is cast iron ? It looks like formed steel . Can you measure it and provide dimensions ? That may help .
It is a saw rest or gents saw rest. Google it and you will find it. Quite old but not terribly uncommon and not worth big money.
