In the Victorian and Edwardian times no well dressed lady would be seen without her Chatelaine with all her useful accessories and of course her aide memoire, the little silver 'to do list' with ivory pages that could be written on in pencil and reused. This piece is so unusual with the Arts & Crafts gargoyle design with grotesque figures and creatures. I strongly suspect the central figure is a highly censored 'Sheila na gig'. (look that one up : ) Wonderful workmanship and an extremely rare design and subject matter.
it is really unusual. is it hallmarked with a date?
