No one knows why my husband’s grandfather (right) and his brother were dressed up as cowboys in the first photo. His grandfather did tell my husband how hard times were in England in the early 1900s and that’s why he and his brothers came to America and maybe they were just happy to be here! There’s also a family story about how they first went through immigration. Apparently you needed to show that you had $50.00. One brother showed officials the money, then secretly passed it behind his back to the next brother, etc. The second picture shows the three brothers: Phil, Sam, and Jack. Ya gotta love Uncle Phil’s shoes! Both of these photos are postcards. The last photo is that of Jack’s sons, the older one being my husband’s father, taken around 1922. They don’t look very excited about being on horseback.
Wow, what amazing pictures and stories. You are very lucky to have them. The cowboy back drop dress up pictures seemed to be popular back then, just as they as sort of popular today at tourist attractions. I imagine that my ancestors looked somewhere along these lines from my Dad's side with dark hair. I have no pictures unfortunately and no stories either. All I have found have been from ancestory.com. I thank them for the info that I have found, otherwise I would have never known anything. Thank you for sharing.
I agree with Mrj303-- the cowboy picture is a studio fabrication. These shots were very popular in the early 20th century and are seen often on early real photo postcards (RPPC).
You are lucky that these stayed with the family.

Thanks, guys. That explains the cowboy get-ups. I appreciate both of your comments.....the blanks are filled in now. Thanks also, Mrj, for giving me the idea of putting these photos and stories on my tree on ancestry.com.
That would be great to put them on Ancestory, I'm sure others that are related and have no info like me would be so thankful.
