I just found out about this coin after owning it for years. So excited.
The artist of this coin stated this comment:
"I was out at the mint to find one of our old display boxes and came across some old ones. I remember now. That reverse side was created to inlay into the tops of our early display boxes. in order to make them quickly and so they would strike up easier, I made two identical dies except the other one had a larger screw press in the middle. Only one side would show and they didn't need to be real thick, so by striking two at a time, it made them easier to strike and we could strike them twice as fast. Later, we went to more specific medallions to designate 1794 and 1796 date sets. So this piece mated with the Liberty Cap Obverse was made just as an oddity for the auction. Probably less than 10 or 20 were produced."
