The Camargue horse is an ancient breed of horse indigenous to the Camargue area in southern France. Its origins remain relatively unknown, although it is generally considered one of the oldest breeds of horses in the world...?? or war horses..??
Bhock45 The painting is called The Horse Fair. By French artist Rosa Bonheur Created: 1852–1855. The original is 96" x 200" and is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I had the same one. Mine hung in my great grandfather's house, then my grandfather's house, then passed on to me. A year or so ago I passed it on to my nephew to keep it in the family.
fhrjr2, interesting, thanks for the comment. You had the same one I have pictured here? Thanks.
Yes, I had the same one. That is how I knew immediately what it was and a bit of the background original artist etc.. Once mine was passed along to me I researched it. As I remember the tower in the background is in Paris (I think).
So this is a print? I do not understand. fhr and bobby did yours have the same writing on the back of the frame?
Brett
Let me put it this way, there is only one original and it is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art last I knew.
Print on Canvas, many Masterpiece Copies have been made this way, some will use varnish to simulate brushstroke to fool the eye.
