I'm not sure whether this is Japanese or Chinese. And is there a Chinese term for 'Shunga'? i hope that this doesn't offend anyone! if it does, my apologies. A friend found it in the trash this morning and brought it to me. it's a little under 8" across and looks like it's been outdoors for a long time. any info appreciated.
and that is the point, valentino! thanks for commenting!
Shunga is Japanese for the kanji (Chinese characters) Chun Hua (??) or "Pictures/images/paintings of Spring" which depict sexual scenes.
These days people use "Shunga" for everything that depicts sex or sexual encounters. Shouldn't, because they are not "paintings" like in the case of this piece.
Hope this helps.

New here, and this is my first post. Hope it's in keeping with the rules. If something is not, be gentle and educate, no not bash or flame please.
PS. Doesn't look like one can edit a post.
The image at the base depicts a Japanese couple (her hairdo is Japanese) and the image is based off a Shunga painting for sure. If the piece is Japanese or Chinese it's difficult to say. The Chinese copy, imitate, pirate and reproduced everything, and the market is full of fakes made in China, namely, "Shunga" albums and lose paintings, etc. They discovered a while back that "sex sells" and haven't stopped since!
