These are hand painted in beautiful colors that belonged to my wife’s grandfather. These haven’t seen the light of day in over 50 years.I knew they were antique but was unsure of the date until we found a entry in his journal that he purchased several Japanese hand fans in 1910.There like new and one still had a paper seal on it that had never been opened. One is marked Japan and I’m assuming the other 2 are also.I’ve got one more brise hand fan that’s hand carved out of 32 pieces of sandalwood.I’m using all 4 pictures on it do to the unique way it’s carved. Thanks for looking.
Every one is so beautiful, like individual works of art - my favorite is the 2nd pic with the lush cherry blossoms. My father was stationed in Japan for a time during the Korean war, wish he would have brought us something as spectacular as these
Thank you so much for the kind words Jenni.I’m never going to complain about all the years of moving these boxes around again. We actually forgot what was in these that we are now gradually going through. Most of this stuff is junk but every once in a while there’s some real treasures.I kid you not there’s at least 100 more that I couldn’t tell you what’s in them.I think I’m going to call the pickers on tv and let them deal with these.
Japan was the king of fans, so beautiful !~
