When Dr. Andrew Still lost three of his children to spinal meningitis in 1864, he became dissatisfied with the crude medical methods of the day. His discovery of a new healing art began in America and has since spread to countries around the world. Still’s approach to healthcare emphasizes the role of the musculoskeletal system in health and disease.
Also known as the locomotor system, the musculoskeletal system is an organ system that provides the human body with form, support, stability, and movement. It is made up of bones, muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and connective tissue that supports and binds the tissues and organs together.
This stamp commemorates the 75th anniversary of the American Osteopathic Association, which Dr. Still founded in 1897 (article credit belong to www.mysticstamp.com)
