Beautiful Italian opal art glass bowl. Designed by Ercole Barovier for Barovier & Toso, circa 1948 Murano, Italy. Fine Neo-Classical modernist design. Decorated with large applied gold leaf 'feathers' on two sides. An oval twisted body with ribs, and twisted gold leaf glass applied to the lip. It rests on six gold leaf, leaf-shaped feet.
Unsigned. Broken pontil. Ground and polished feet.
The "Barocchi" series of 1948 is one of the first post-war collections produced by Barovier and Toso in which models with variations were presented. "Barocchi" translates to "Baroque".
An almost identical example is pictured on page 85 of "ERCOLE BAROVIER 1889-1974 - Vetraio Muranese" by Attilia Dorigato (published in Venice in 1989). That example is in the collection of Angelo Barovier.
