My mom purchased this table at an auction recently for $20. We have tried searching, but cannot figure out what it is! I couldn't find a stamp or any identifying information. When pulled from the side, two pieces come out about 6 inches on both sides, but do not line up with the top of the table (so definitely not to extend the table for dining). They are connected by gears so that pulling on one side puts out the other side as well. There is also a drawer on the front with dividers and felt lining. Very curious as to this table's purpose!
I would say it is a perimeter table. Usually round but also made square and rectangle. Generally used for a buffet type meal. Center of the table proper sits slightly higher than the leaves. Also functions as a normal dining table when leaves are folded inward.
The drawer, being lined with felt, is for storing your sterling silver flatware. The felt is a special feature to prevent tarnishing of silverware.
If you should need to replace the liner, shop online for “anti- tarnish” fabric.
Nice table!
Within the last 30 years I would say, I know its a reproduction and cannot figure if it is from Thailand.
Beautiful piece! What a great price! Enjoy it!
