This 1 1-2" goldtone brooch is made with several gemstones, as was the hallmark of vintage designer Edward Swoboda of Los Angeles CA (1955-1978), the leaves are peridot, the wings & "bamboo" branch are jade & the eye is carnelian, although the pearls are probably faux

This is a beautiful brooch- the little bird sitting on a branch singing his little heart out to welcome spring is a great pose for him to be in, and that particular colour of jade is so deep and strong. Some jade you see is rather white and milky but this is a great colour for the bird and the bamboo branch.
WOW What a beautiful piece.It looks like jade or emerald with pearls.Very Nice.

Eileen I know, Swoboda made such lovely pieces using the natural stones, at least he didn't use real gold so the brooch would be affordable, but still I agree they would call it semi precious.

The pearls look real to me! And you can see the jadeite looks to be hand carved. Put the pearl gently on your tooth. If it feels smooth, it's faux. If it feels gritty, reminds me of fingernails on a chalk board, then they are real. Especially if the other stones are real, then so would the pearls be, I would guess.

This came out at a time where I was in hospital so I missed it. I almost expected the branch he rests upon to be a whistle ! The pearls give the piece an extra added boost which puts it out over the top !~
