      Is the little Z (-enith) box an old "hearing aid" device?? (its coiled up wire thing being an earplug, etc.?)

      I WELL remember that slogan, V33!! :-) :-) :-) IIRC, Zenith was one of the inventors/pioneers of the "remote control", their particular method of doing so involving ultrasonics. (since today's commonly used 'ultraviolet/uv' technology hadn't been invented yet) My Uncle Charlie had one of those TV sets...the remote was a 3-button fully mechanical gizmo, pushing any of its springloaded buttons caused a tiny metal hammer inside to whack a little metal bar and the audible 'clack' produced would trigger the TV set to turn on/off or change channel. WAY COOL THING, back then... <lol>

      Anything ob. We also had one with hammer -bar remotes
      Sometimes when the phone rang the Channels changed
