Need Help - can anyone tell me about this rocking chair? It is very low profile (low to the ground) like for a shorter person. I am guessing that the upholstery is not original. Wanting to know more about it - seems very worn and old. kristiejoiner@hotmail.com THANKS SO MUCH

Can you please tell the measurement from the floor to the seat. It should be very short if I am correct. I am at a loss at the moment for the name of the manufacturer but it was made in the mid west years ago. Their rocking chairs always had the same basic design on the crest board. The name will probably come to me in the middle of the night, old age does that to you.

Thanks for the inquiry... I measured the lowest part of the frame to the ground (front of the rocker) and it is 11 1/4 inches - what might be your hunch about when it was manufactured or made and date? I don't mind trying to do some research but not sure where to start. THANKS SO MUCH

I am at a loss to say anything specific for sure. I would begin by researching Tell City Chair Company. It is or was located in Tell City, Indiana. I believe they did this floral design during the early 1900's up until around 1950's or 60's. I am sure it was called floral design. Sometimes just a simple rose and other times (like this one) some added extras on the crest board. They used a number of different hardwoods but their main line was Mahogany.

PS: Your measurements are correct for rocking chairs they would have made during the depression years.

I suspect your chair is several decades newer than the one shown in your post and by different manufacturers. Any chance you could get a clear photo of the underside of the seat and a side view that shows the framework from the seat to the skids/rockers? You could eliminate photo #3 then add two more.
