Collectabl…
(310 items)
I know when I'm beaten and I also know who to call on, yes the CW clan. I found this absolutely wonderful and beautiful what looks feels and smells of silver mother of pearl and other jewels dragonfly brooch tucked away in a draw in my mums room.. I know you would have to hold it and see it to appreciate its beauty but I would really like to know what I've got.
Hope someone can help. Neil
Wow that is a gorgeous antique dragonfly brooch, a real beauty
So very difficult to tell what you have. Not sure if it's MOP or not. If the back was cleaner we'd probably have a better picture. But don't clean anything until Kyra gets back to you. The separate pieces on the front look quite thick and solid, and from the back a solid metal, so my GUESS is it's not a "plique de jour" (let's the light in) piece.
But...I have been very wrong sometimes. That being said - Do Not Clean.
Ah! The dragonfly, always at the top of my animal totem!!! That looks like carnelian in the center to me and I think it does look like MOP in all the other spots too. I can't read the cartouche but I love that little heart at the end of the tail. It would be nice to think that the little stones on the wings were pink sapphires!!! Doubt it tho.
Thank you Jenni for the love and your comment. Neil
Thank you Gillian for the love and comments. I think Kyra must be away for easter. The cartouche has been rubbed blank and the other mark's are scratches were someone has tried to test it for silver. The mother of pearl and the other stones/jewels as well as the silver are in a wonderful condition. Thanks again. Neil
Very nice dragonfly!
I agree with mother of pearl (dyed pinkish) pieces, not enamel, the stones are glued, not set (if you look well, the prongs aren't useful to hold them in place).
The textured back and glued rhinestones lead to costume jewellery, rather silver plated than solid.
It has some age, I'd say 60s.
A pity the mark is blank! It must have been the maker's logo.
No problem for cleaning/ remove tarnish on the back with a silver cloth, don't wet it, the mop and stones glue will not appreciate ;-).
If you can, have it tested for silver by a careful jeweller who won't pour the acid directly on the piece!
And, I'm thrilled to see the update after cleaning :-)
Thank you shareyurpassion and your right there is no sapphires but thanks for your comment and love .
